Pulled Boat

Saturday 10/16/04
Yesterday, Bob and I drove down, met Seth & Megan, finished disassembly, unsteped the mast and towed her home. The row out to the mooring was kind? a sporty in a twenty-knot southwester and occasional gusts in the high 20's. Nearing the point along Spicer's house, the gusts would bring me to a stop; and I was dreading the other side of the jetty. Fortunately, the wind lost the funneling effect beyond the jetty and other than the waves the row was uneventful. After securing her to the trailer for the ride home the four of us retired to the Seahorse for a late lunch and a couple? a beers. SeTherin is now in the driveway alongside the garage. Once I get the bottom all cleaned we will move her to her winter berth in the back yard.

I’d like to thank Paul Bowler, Bob Fagan and Jeff Lamothe for their assistance yesterday (Wednesday 091703) in the dismantling & hauling of SeTherin.  Jeff and I finished securing the mast and tiding up at 5pm just in time for an evening sail. I was invited aboard “She's the Boss” owned by John Sutherland, the J-105 Jeff crews on Wednesday nights. With most the regular crew onboard we tacked a dozen or more times towards Napatree Point with the last of the ebb. Rounding a virtual mark abeam the Sealy (mattress) Castle on the island's eastern most point we set the spinnaker for the trip home. After a number of jibes I've a much better understanding of the asymmetric, tack line & sprit operation.

After a couple of beers and something to eat at the Seahorse with the crew, I docked SeTherin in the backyard around ten for her long winter's nap. In reality a lot of maintenance is planned, the largest, stripping the bottom for a new paint job & a bit of fiberglass work here and there.

Wednesday, George & I brought SeTherin home to the Mark Drive boat yard. As I had dropped the mast, disassembled everything and tided things up for transport on Tuesday, things went smooth and quick. Now that she's in the back yard, it is time to evaluate and organize the work list for the winter months. First off, it looks like the keel is due for a major refinishing.

As there are a few more ECSA circuit races left in the western end of the association, we will not know for sure how we end up in the standings until November.  I can say in all certainty however, the 2002 season was by far our best since moving to Connecticut from Pensacola in '85.  I'd like to thank all the crew for their camaraderie and assistance throughout the season.
