Anticipating tacks towards Clay Point, we chose the port end of the line for clear air. This worked fairly well, except for Jolly Mon extending prior to her tack, requiring a short clearing tack on our part. Near Clay Point, we threw in a handful of very short tacks close to shore for maximum current avoidance. All in all, we had 25 tacks down the north shore to Lords’ Pass.

Following the set at the MOA, we worked offshore in hopes of avoiding any nascent ebb along the shore to Wilderness where we just clipped the southern edge of the rip. We probably should have gone in closer to the airport, yet chose not to, as it was nearly DDW and I didn’t think any gain justified a jibe, though I think some boats far ahead may have.  We did not notice much ebb till Widlerness, maybe delayed by the easterly wind.

Prior to Race Point, we discussed a peel to the reacher but chose not to, but Brian’s lowering of the pole short of the rounding allowed us to carry the spinnaker well past Silver Eel.  Short of North Hill, switching from reach to beat mode gave us a hard starboard to the finish without a tack.

In the twenty-one Fishers Island YC races in which SeTherin has competed in since 1992, the majority of events have been counter-clockwise around the island.  Six races have be clockwise and one an inside course.  We have yet to place in a FI counter-clockwise regatta, yet in the clockwise events we have achieved first place twice, placed third twice and forth once.
