In a delayed start due to the fog, I chose a port start (contrary to the rest of the class) along the line dodging a couple sterns to cross at the committee boat, thinking to benefit from the possibly stronger ebb offshore.  Zallee was the first to round far ahead, then Watercolors, Cosmic & ourselves with Jolly Mon directly behind us. Downwind along with Cosmic we chose inshore for GLP to escape the current (a big mistake), while the rest of the class sailed closer to the rhumbline.
In retrospect dead-downwind or a jibe to port may have been even better.

Our next upwind to finish at Intrepid good also, though our deficit from the downwind was far too great.
