Numerous wind checks prior to the start led us to believe port would be favored by 5 to 10 degrees. We had a good mid-line at speed start, then tacked to port about thirty-seconds past the gun and continued out short of North Dumpling for what was certainly the favored tack. Sans Souci, trailing on our stern a dozen or more boat lengths was the only boat in our class to take a similar path. The vast majority of the fleet sailed towards Groton Long Point.
We rounded the windward mark with smooth bearaway set and continued on starboard, jibing about 2/3’s down the course. Following the leeward mark, Jolly Mon & Cosmic headed for Groton Long Point again. Exiting the leeward mark, the numbers enforced our decision to remain on port. Compared to the first leg, we were down some due to the flood yet still within forty-five degrees of the rhumbline.
The starboard run to the finish was nearly dead-downwind, often sailing near to lee.
Earlier in the afternoon, Adam, Brian & I went out with John Fries in conditions perfect for evaluating our new sails: a light #1 genoa & main. In addition to having a very pleasant sail, we learned a few things from John along the way.

- Wednesday @ 06:35PM - We are racing on course 4, windward mark tucked up towards West Harbor at 160, 1.3 NM. 36 boats started in 6 classes. Cool night. Kudos to Sparky with Jamie Rice playing catch up single handing against the other Class Two J's. Looking to go the distance with a clear, cool, friendly night. Come back for results in about two hours.
- Wednesday @ 07:59PM - Tight fleet, tight night! Balance shifts the balance with a first in fleet. Last to first in 7 days. Jolly Mon smokes the fleet FTF, but the clock kicks their butt in favor of SeTherin. Dragin Z Ballz takes the J boats to town and 2nd Chance along with Patriot leave no doubt about big bad boats in solid breeze. Exciting mark roundings and boat speed made for a Top Ten night in Mudhead heaven.
