SeTherin DNC due to annual Nauer / Magner retreat to OBX

Glorious Night at The Donzo

Looking for the sizzle in sailboat racing?  I think we found some of it last night on the last leg of Spring Race # 7.  At least from the RC boat, we could see some happy faces holding on to those spinnaker sheets coming to the finish.  Kind of makes us understand why we do this dance with mother nature every week.   The night started with a solid Westerly dead out of 270 at 10 knots in a building flood.  A few lumpy seas, but a fast upwind leg and then some tactics downwind...behind the reef, stay out for pressure.   The mark roundings were crowded and that's always fun.  Rule book, please!  I'm sorry, sir, but I do believe I have an overlap.  Crunch!   ah, sorry!

Then a 30 degree windshift to the NW.  Too late to change the course, so fetch the mark and then pop the chute and rip on home.  Bill Canning's Wild Horses came from way back on the outside to take the fleet gun again.  The Vipers got to kick up their heels, too.  As the puffs came in from Bluff Point, it was surge and go, baby!  And such a sunlite sky.  Why, you would almost think summer was here to stay.

Leda, Patriot, Ursa Minor and Salud had the other guns on the night.  But they all corrected backward to make way for Sans Souci, Stealth, Looney Tunes and Quantum Leap for the Class wins.

Dark N'Stormy had to retire before the start due to a visit to Horseshoe Reef.  Ouch!  Boat is pulled for repairs.  So, we have our first giveaway for the Annual Awards Dinner!  But, yawn, not MudCup Worthy. Good to see Peter Rugg and the Fishers Island sailing academy back in action on Jaded.  And Peb and Meg are proud to announce the name of their new arrival...TBD is now Eclipse.  Hmmm, tastey!

Still time to enter Friday's Mudnight Madness Overnight.  We have about a dozen boats including Leda, Zig Zag Zoom, 2nd Chance, Spartan, She's the Boss, Looney Tunes to defend, Ursa Minor, Lindy, Balance, Arabesque and Brakin' Wind.  Finally, next Wednesday night is the mid season party.  Short race to cap the Spring Series.  5 in the books.   Greg T. Gilmartin
