With a forecast of little wind and temps in the 90's we motored out from Spicers at 1015 towards the TYC starting area half-way between Vixen and Silver Eel.

Following a false start of the Ensigns and an abandoned non-spinnaker race, the race committee selected a short course .75 nm at 200 for the first race once the sea breeze began to build out of the SW. We were the second class to go in about a 6 knot clocking wind making the course a reach which most of the boats in our class were able to fetch w/o tacking. Though a jibe-set was the obvious choice, we rounded with a bear-away and jibed at the first opportunity for the reach to the finish.

Following a short break, the second race was set for two laps 1.25 nm at 260 degrees. This time we had a good start in eight knots for breeze, though could not point nearly as well as the rest of the boats in the choppy seas.

This time the wind direction remained fairly steady, so a bear-away was the best choice on both roundings.

We finished last in both races, too lumpy, too little wind. It was good to have Kevin and Erin aboard; Kevin’s second sailing experience and Erin’s second time racing.
